Our Team

Joe Becker

President

President and Chief Executive Officer, Joe is involved in all aspects of the investigative business, including being a key contact for clients, direction to supervisors and investigative staff, and actual field investigations, as necessary. He has more than 35 years of experience in the insurance claims industry, working as a claims adjuster and private investigator for both insurance companies and self-insured corporations.

After working in the insurance claims profession for ten years, Joe made the transition to Private Investigations focusing on the needs of the insurance industry. That experience over the next 25 years includes field investigation, supervision, management and all facets of business organizational skills required to operate a successful enterprise.

This lifetime journey in the satisfying and always interesting world of Insurance investigation has been rich with business relationships with clients, investigators and professionals involved in insurance defense. As an professional investigator Joe has testified in court many times and provided services to hundreds of clients to protect their legal interests .

Joe continues to focus on providing valuable services Nationwide to corporate clients every day.

Melissa Cohen

Accounting Manager

Melissa is the Accounting Manager for Becker & Company, where she oversees payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. She has been with Becker & Company for over 11 years and has had many roles within the company, including CIU Coordinator, Intake Coordinator, and Office Manager. She likes to say that the only thing she has not yet done in her time here is work out in the field conducting surveillance. She helps to train new employees and enjoys assisting them to look past the surface in order to consider an assignment from the client’s point of view.  

Melissa attended the University of Pittsburgh and graduated from Career Training Academy with a certificate in Massage Therapy. She has been continuing her Accounting education to grow with her evolving role at Becker. 

Melissa has a high school aged daughter and enjoys volunteering with the school’s marching band as the Band Parent President. She also enjoys reading and traveling in her spare time.

Jon Guthrie

Surveillance Manager

Jon is the Surveillance Manager at Becker & Company, a position he has held since September 2014.  Jon began his career with the company in 2008 as a Field Investigator and quickly was promoted to Field Supervisor.  In 2010, Jon advanced to Surveillance Coordinator, and after 4 years in that role he was promoted into his current position.  Jon oversees the daily operations of the Surveillance Team which includes Surveillance Investigators, Coordinators, Technical Writers, and Video Technicians.  Jon believes in a detail-oriented approach to case management and investigations and he encourages his team to “know it and own it”.  Jon’s numerous experiences within the company over the last 12 years aid in navigating even the toughest case situations we face every day.

Jon graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor’s degree in Criminology/Pre-Law, and he is licensed as a Private Investigator in multiple states.  Jon also achieved the Eagle Scout rank.  Jon has a wife and two young children, a son and a daughter, whom he is crazy about.  Jon is a car and motorcycle enthusiast, and he enjoys all types of sports and traveling in his spare time. 

Danielle Laing

CIU Manager

Danielle is the manager of our Claims Investigation Unit (CIU) department. In this role she oversees a team of CIU Coordinators and CIU Writers. Danielle is responsible for daily direction of our dedicated and skilled investigative team. Danielle and her team oversee complex case management, quality assurance, billing and final reports for each CIU case. She is a firm believer that proper planning, client communication, and staying several steps ahead of the workload is the best way to conduct an effective investigation. Prior to her promotion as manager, Danielle worked in our CIU department as our only CIU Coordinator. With hard work and dedication our CIU department has expanded tremendously over the last three years. In her role, she coordinated hundreds of field investigations, while working very closely with many different clients and field investigators to get results.

Danielle graduated from the University of Phoenix with degrees in Health Care Administration and Psychology which lead her to start her career as a Medical Care Coordinator in the Worker’s Compensation field, which ultimately lead her to the investigative side of things.

Danielle and husband, Kenny, have four children and reside in the Pittsburgh, PA area. Danielle enjoys DIY projects, health and fitness, and spending time with her family.

Chuck McCracken

Sales Manager

Chuck is the sales manager for Becker & Company. He transitioned to sales in 2014, after over 15 years as the operations manager for the firm. Chuck has worked in the investigative field for over 40 years with a background in personnel security and counterintelligence for the Federal government. Chuck initially came to the company as a field investigator, but quickly became a field supervisor and subsequently operations manager. With this tenured background he brings a unique perspective to his current position. He has the capabilities and background to suggest non-traditional options to clients on cases where regular surveillance may not have been effective previously. Often bringing closure files which would have been deemed "unsolvable" by clients. He enjoys mentoring younger staff members and helps to shape our corporate policy and procedures.

Chuck graduated from Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology and has training as a Certified Fraud Consultant.

Chuck and wife, Diane, have two grown daughters and three grandchildren, and currently reside in South Carolina.  He enjoys fishing and spending time with his grandchildren during his spare time.

Michael Ulf

Marketing Manager

Michael (Mike) Ulf is the Marketing Manager at Becker & Company. Mike's role as Marketing Manager is to direct all marketing efforts by building brand awareness and manage Becker’s strategy in the industry. Originally from Pittsburgh, PA with extensive experience in Washington D.C., Baltimore and New York markets, Mike brings a keen outside eye and desire for industry growth into the company.

Prior to joining Becker & Co Mike held multiple organizational management positions in the program and events industry. Mike has scrupulous detail and execution, leadership experience and fanatical customer focus.

Mike has an undergraduate degree in business management from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and an MBA from Waynesburg University. In his spare time, Mike enjoys spending time with his wife and two young children.
